To get a phone extension to work, enter a semicolon in the phone number field. The phone will ask you to send the remaining numbers and you can simply dial them at the appropriate voice prompt. See Gina Spicka from Amica for an entry example.
Address book problem: gmail companies don't show up on phone contacts in android if the name field is blank. FIX: put the company name in the name field temporarily in Google Contacts, make sure it pops up on the phone, then delete the name from the name field in Google Contacts.
Simple Mobile plan and it is actually $25 for 750 MB, not GB
$30/month with T-Mobile for unlimited data (5 GB at up to 4G speeds), unlimited texting, and 100 minutes of voice
PCWorld: "The main difference between Gmail and Skype is that Google allows users to call mobile phones and landlines for free, whereas Skype only allows free calls to other Skype accounts. Skype, however, offers mobile apps for calling other users. Google doesn't offer any free voice calling on mobile phones. Both services charge for international calls"
PCWorld: " it isn't a free-calling app (though if you use the desktop client, you can make free calls to U.S. numbers); it's just a way of streamlining your phone numbers and voicemail. Google Voice uses your mobile device's minutes plan to make phone calls (if you don't have a minutes plan, you can't make calls), so it doesn't offer a way around carrier charges. Google Voice is useful if you want to read your voicemail just as you do email, send text messages for free, and consolidate your phone numbers."
PCWorld: "Google's mobile app does not call with VoIP, however; instead it goes through your phone connection, which costs you carrier minutes. If your mobile plan offers free calling to favorite numbers, you can add your Google Voice number to your favorites, thereby making any call out through Google Voice free. To get VoIP calling with Google Voice on a mobile device, you can try connecting it to another VoIP app, such as Groove IP or Sipdroid on Android, or Talkatone or Line 2 on iOS. I successfully placed calls from an Android tablet with Sipdroid, and from an iPad with Google Voice using Line 2.
Android Authority lists lots of VoIP services but light on details.
FatWallet notes" To receive incoming calls you MUST go into your Google Voice account and forward calls to Google Chat. You may also need to sign out of Google Chat or Google Talk in other locations as calls are only routed to one sign-in.

GrooveIP is being shut down by Google on May 15, 2014. See more notes here.
Talkatone download uses its own number (not GV). Free incoming, 20 min. free outgoing.
iOS will do VOIP I guess: link -- yes, this works on iPad.
